In Search of Answers
The Research + Development + Innovation area at Ebiotec seeks to provide answers to a wide range of questions about:
- how the different components of the nervous system are organized in degenerative disorders
- how certain active ingredients interact with tumor diseases
- what are the therapeutic effects of the developed nutraceuticals?
These questions are pieces of a puzzle that are continuously being fitted together through the combined application of analytical tools from genetics, molecular biology, neuroanatomy, electrophysiology, pharmacology, behavioral biology and neuroimaging, present in our preclinical research departments.
The R&D&I area has a highly qualified multidisciplinary team, made up essentially of researchers with expertise in biology, pharmacy and medicine. This biomedical team is complemented by specialists in the various branches of applied experimental science, through partner companies, national and international universities
The Neurosciences department develops its activity in experimental histopathological studies of prevalent diseases in in vivo/in vitro models :
Neurodegenerative Diseases (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's)

Cerebro-Cardiovascular Diseases (Stroke)
Our R&D&I services
- Development of preclinical assays in animal models for projects of biotechnology companies and external laboratories.
- Development of animal models of different pathologies for preclinical experimentation.
- Development and analysis of experimental trials with pre-clinical application:
- Laboratory processing of animal tissue samples
- Application of molecular biology techniques (Immuno-histochemistry/fluorescence, neuroimaging, etc.).
- Expertise and analysis of experimental results in animal models of experimentation.
The Biotechnology department develops its activity through the characterization of new nutraceutical products and functional foods, of marine and plant origin, with the aim of improving bioactivity and bioavailability indicators, as well as reducing the risk of contracting diseases, acting on nutrigenomic profiles (genetic and epigenetic risk factors) with possible implication in prevalent pathologies.

- Study of their bioactive properties.
- Characterization of bioproducts with a preventive-therapeutic profile against prevalent diseases.
Encapsulation of bioactive compounds in liposomes
It consists of the encapsulation of a specific protein in a vesicle formed by a lipid liposome (a biologically active sphingolipid) with regenerative anti-inflammatory and neuronal properties, thus integrating a novel formulation for the administration of DRUGS, NUTRACEUTICS and BIOPRODUCTS. It presents great biocompatibility, biodegradability and absence of biotoxicity.
